Metabolic Support UK is delighted to share that during the month of September, two medications for an inherited metabolic disorder were approved in the UK. Next month, we hope to be able to give an update on reassessments currently ongoing for galsulfase for MPS VI and miglustat for Gaucher diseases in Wales.

Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia
Evinacumab for treating homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia in people 12 years and over. This medicine was approved by NICE in England and endorsed by the Department of Health in Northern Ireland. This means that evinacumab or treating homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia in people 12 years and over will become available in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

X-linked hypophosphatemia
Burosumab for treating X-linked hypophosphataemia in adults. The Department of Health in Northern Ireland has endorsed the work conducted by NICE in England. This means that burosumab for adults living with XLH is now also going to be available in Northern Ireland.
